Troupe Mayyadah at
26-27
Sept. 2009 - Lake Casitas, Ojai, Ca. ...
Diary from the 2nd Weekend - You must realize that this is the part that I can tell you about, as some things that happen at Faire must stay at Faire ..... That's why you should be there - then you can see all the secret details for yourself. |

Thanks to - Chelle, Dana, Janet, Eileen, Suzanne, Kayla, Rico, Bubbles and Sara for dancing. Amy, Roger, and Tyler for the drumming.
As I left Santa Maria and got onto highway 166 and an ambulance came past me with lights flashing, mmmm, not good. About a mile later, fire truck blazes past, then two CHP cars.....about 15 miles shy of New Cuyama we came upon stopped traffic. A headon collision about a mile ahead. We sat for an hour and a half in 100+ temps before they cleared the road. I have not heard if anyone was critically injured or not. Hopefully that was good news since they tend to publish the bad. I stopped in Ojai on the way to grab pizza's and that was our dinner Friday nite. Pizza by candle light at Camp Mayyadah on the shore of Lake Casitas. Wow, life is good.
Dance
Director Notes from Dana - The crowd wanders by right in front of our encampment to stop & watch. Dancers hand out bracelets and bindis to the children. Shows are put on all day long. Everyone dances when they want too. Our encampment was set-up beautiful with a huge glorious shade so we weren't baking in the sun. Many people would wander up to enjoy our shade and watch the dancing.
...
It was glorious indeed Dana, you have done such a fine job with all the gals it is hard to tell that they are not chorographed - TRUE Improv is fun to watch. Grandson Cameron loves Renne & Pirates Faires and he is a member of the Penguins Guild (ice vendors) along with Stephanie, his mom. Now I must mention that because it does create a few problems. Dana brought a mascot for us this time. A Penguin named Gwen. Well you can see the rub here already, Steph told the Captain at the Penguins that we had a nice looking lady penguin for their Guild mascot Humphrey. So the Penguins devised a plan to kidnap Gwen and give her to Humphrey to be pillaged and defiled. Well, Troupe Mayyadah are not that naive and knew that she would be in danger. So Dana strapped a belt around her and one of the tent poles so she was secured. Well, Stephanie runs back and forth between the Penguins and Troupe Mayyadah (a policy that is being reconsidered) So she saw that Gwen was strapped in. As it turns out, the plan was that Steph would come by and slyly undo Gwen's belt while a fellow would sneak thru and grab her. Haaaa, NOT !!! The fellow was a little premature as is often his problem. He came thru the back of the big red tent and Dana, who was dancing at the time, saw him and asked why he was in her tent? Well he was committed and grabbed Gwen and took off running, because Gwen was secured to the post his hand slipped off. He paused just long enough for Dana to realize what was going on and she took off chasing him thru and out the back of the tent. Dana came back to camp after chasing the culprit. Tyler and Kayla were out walking around the fair. I looked over and saw the criminal walking back toward the Pengiun's camp. I yelled very loudly - T-Y-L-E-R - and Tyler's head pops around the corner of a vendor about 50 yards away. Dana sees him and the penguin pervert walking near Tyler, she yells for Tyler to stop him "He is stealing from us" she yells. The
poor Penguin hears her & sees he has attracted Tyler's attention
and starts to RUN
back to the Penguins camp
with Tyler
in pursuit. Well,
if you know Tyler, he is not going to lose ....... Tyler does a flying
tackle of the fellow and rolls to a stop with him in a headlock right
in front of the Penguins tent ....... perfect ...... Stephanie runs out
and realizes that she didn't get her "release" of Gwen executed
and pleads with Tyler to let the fellow go, just as Dana runs up and
authorizes Tyler to let him go. All is good at Troupe Mayyadah, no harm no foul and Gwen is safe and secure...... The Penguins Captain come over to our camp later to clarify the situation .... makes sure we understand it's all in good fun. I told him, Yes we realize that. He notifies us that Gwen is a marked Penguin and that they intend to get her at some future event ....... Go for it I tell him, the next time we may have her booby trapped with a contact and motion detector fired stun gun ....... So as a WARNING to all Penguins feel free to help yourself to Gwen, just beware you may be reduced to a quivering mass lying on the turf in your own bodily fluids when Gwen's 80,000 volts gives you your reward ............... he he he ! While that was fun it was not the hi-light of the weekend. Saturday night at the after party showcase ..... we are all watching the entertainers entertain us when 6 lovely ladies step up onto the stage - then one of them announces "Hey Mom cover Dad's eyes" and Chelle clamps her hand over my eyes ............. then the crowd goes wild, hooting and hollerin' WTF was I missing - Well you probably guessed it all the girls threw their tops up over their heads to bare their charms to the world. I am thinking, Oh my, where did I go wrong ........ but then I realize my daughter had the decency to warn Mom to cover my eyes ...... for that I am grateful. Thanks Steph ...... whatever. I am not sure what came first the proposal or the bare breasted display, one quick flip of the top and Steph had a suitor, Sailing Master Navigator “John Lambert”, also known as “Indy”, from St. Elizabeth’s. After the required tail sniff he proposed marriage and Steph accepted, Indy then asked me for approval for the marriage - I shook his hand and sincerely told him "Good Luck with that". On Sunday there was a big feast for the Pirate King that they attended and all of a sudden up jumps “Indy” from his seat yelling “She said yes, captain! Please marry us before she changes her mind!” SO, they jumped the sword and were betrothed for a year and a day by the reigning Pirate King Samuel Bellamy ....... Somehow tho' it still amazes me, that grown men old enough to know better are still attracted to bare breasts, just like June bugs to a lantern.
Dana furnished dinner Saturday night, Pulled Pork sandwiches. They were awesome. Thanks Dana. Someone made salad I am sorry I don't know who but I am not a salad eater but the salads were also great .... hmmm. Breakfasts were pancakes and sausage Saturday and Chorizo and Egg burritos on Sunday. Did I mention we eat good at camp. In order to wake up enough to enjoy breakfast, Janet made us the best Bloody Mary's, yumm, one must drink veggie juice in the morning it's good for you. Sunday comes and goes and it's time to pack up camp. I had to take Cameron home to New Cuyama by the time I got back at camp everyone had most of camp broke down and packed. Thanks Gang. Chelle and I are spending the night Sunday night and going to drive the trailer home on Monday. Everyone says good bye and Chelle and I rest for a bit then drive into Ojai for a nice Mexican dinner. Once again I would like to thanks EVERYONE who came and helped and danced both weekends. Also I would like thank all of the other guilds for everything they do to make the Faire a success ( yes even the Penguins, love ya all). It is great when folks from all over come and sit with us to gossip, share drink and hooka. Drum and dance. To many names, Thanks ALL !
Note: Times, places and sequence of events may be skewed or altered from reality due to sniffing too many empty Rum bottles. |
